夏の甲子園　激闘に幕

[17年ぶり2度目の優勝を果たした大阪桐蔭ナイン。 8/18/ 甲子園球場]

8月2日から始まった第90回全国高校野球選手権記念大会 (日本高校野球連盟、朝日
新聞社主催) は最終日の8月18日､兵庫県西宮市の阪神甲子園球場で決勝戦が行わ
れ、大阪桐蔭（北大阪）が常葉菊川（静岡）を17-0の猛打で下し、17年ぶり2度目の優勝
を果たしました。

6月14日に沖縄大会が幕を明け、 2ヶ月以上に渡り熱闘が展開された今夏の高校野球。
記念大会が行われた今年は､沖縄勢が甲子園大会に初参加して50年目の節目の年。言
わば沖縄高校野球にとって半世紀の集大成でもありました。この意義深い年に､沖縄尚
学のセンバツ優勝に続き、夏の甲子園では浦添商業が11年ぶりの4強入りと言う快挙を
成し遂げました。同一県から異なるチームでセンバツ優勝校と夏ベスト4進出校が出揃う
のは、高校野球史上初の大偉業。 2008年夏の浦添商業は、沖縄の高校野球が半世紀
の間に目覚しい発展を遂げた事を、充分過ぎるほどに証明して見せました。

今夏の高校野球、県大会初日から甲子園決勝までの激闘を思い返せば、今でも感動と
興奮に胸が打ち震えます。特に､甲子園の大舞台で全国の強豪相手に死闘を繰り広げた
沖縄代表･浦添商業ナインの躍動感溢れるプレーは、鮮烈な印象を残しました。甲子園大
会が幕を閉じた今、一抹の淋しさを感じます。浦添商ナイン、大きな喜びと夢をありがとう！
そして2008夏のすべての球児達へ、心からありがとう！！
